The September 28–October 4 market window produced three commercially relevant signals for coated aluminum buyers: aluminum benchmarks moved lower, UAE primary-aluminum logistics gained a new route outside the Strait of Hormuz, and spot container rates from Shanghai to Europe continued to ease. A newly awarded housing development in Bahrain also created a project lead worth qualifying, although no roofing or façade material specification has yet been released.

China A00 and LME Aluminum Both Moved Lower

The two benchmarks below use different markets, currencies and pricing bases. They should not be substituted for one another in a quotation.

Benchmark Opening reference Latest reference Change
CCMN Changjiang spot A00 aluminum, domestic China, tax included RMB 24,170/metric tonne on September 28 RMB 24,030/metric tonne on September 30 Down RMB 140/t, or 0.58%
LME aluminum cash settlement USD 3,248.50/metric tonne on September 28 USD 3,109.50/metric tonne on October 2 Down USD 139/t, or 4.28%
LME aluminum three-month USD 3,252/metric tonne on September 28 USD 3,122/metric tonne on October 2 Down USD 130/t, or 4.00%

Fact: CCMN described September 30 as the final trading day before China’s long holiday. Its A00 average was RMB 24,030/t, within a quoted range of RMB 24,010–24,050/t. The benchmark had been RMB 24,170/t on September 28. LME warehouse stocks in the referenced series slipped only from 241,375 to 240,375 tonnes during the same week, even as cash settlement prices fell more sharply.

No currency conversion has been applied. CCMN remains in RMB per metric tonne and LME remains in USD per metric tonne, so there is no FX assumption hidden in the comparison.

Analysis: The steeper LME decline does not mean Chinese coated coil offers should fall by the same percentage. A Chinese export price normally starts with a domestic metal reference and then adds alloy, rolling, pretreatment, coating, packaging, financing and freight costs. China’s market also stopped producing new CCMN reference points after September 30 for the holiday.

Follow-up: Any offer issued before domestic trading resumes should state the exact CCMN observation date, quotation validity and the mechanism for adjusting the metal component. Buyers comparing offers against LME should be told explicitly which benchmark the supplier actually uses. Senruida’s pre-painted aluminum coil specification range covers different alloys, dimensions and coating systems, all of which need to be priced separately from the underlying A00 reference.

EGA Adds an East-Coast Export Route Outside Hormuz

Fact: Emirates Global Aluminium and Gulftainer announced an agreement on September 30 to expand aluminum exports from the UAE’s east coast. EGA plans to route up to 250,000 tonnes through the corridor in the first year and up to 300,000 tonnes in the second, with Gulftainer developing additional port capability.

The route is commercially significant because UAE east-coast ports provide access to the Gulf of Oman without requiring an outbound passage through the Strait of Hormuz. It does not, however, amount to a full recovery in Gulf aluminum supply. Reuters reported on October 2 that regional metal production remained approximately two million tonnes lower on an annualized basis because of the Iran conflict and associated disruption.

Analysis: This is a logistics-resilience measure, not evidence that all curtailed smelter capacity has returned. It may gradually reduce delivery risk for EGA’s existing output and give buyers another source of primary metal outside constrained Persian Gulf routings. It should not yet be used to remove geopolitical or physical-premium risk from forward purchasing assumptions.

Follow-up: Monitor actual shipment volumes through the new corridor, EGA’s production-restoration milestones and any corresponding movement in European or Middle Eastern physical premiums. These indicators will be more useful than assuming the route announcement alone increases available metal.

Europe Freight Rates Fell, but Gulf Deliveries Remain Uneven

Fact: Drewry’s World Container Index fell 1% to USD 4,434 per 40-foot container on October 1. Shanghai–Rotterdam decreased 2% to USD 3,399 per 40-foot container, while Shanghai–Genoa fell 3% to USD 3,702. Drewry said Asia–Europe rates had declined for 12 consecutive weeks, although carriers were still managing supply through blank sailings.

Analysis: This creates some room for lower delivered costs to Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, but it is not yet a reason to promise a long-dated freight level. Golden Week closures, carrier capacity management and port congestion can make an executable booking differ from the weekly index.

Conditions are more complicated for Middle Eastern destinations. Expeditors reported on September 30 that Persian Gulf ports were operating but remained constrained. Jeddah was experiencing landside delays of approximately 10–12 days after discharge, while Khor Fakkan and Fujairah continued to serve as alternative gateways outside the Strait risk area.

Follow-up: Quote ocean freight by destination port and route rather than using a general “Middle East” allowance. Confirm transshipment points, free time, congestion exposure and the validity of carrier surcharges. For large-format architectural material, container loading and handling should also be checked early; Senruida’s ultra-wide coated aluminum coil is available up to 2,650 mm, but usable width must be coordinated with packaging, container access and the fabricator’s equipment.

Bahrain Housing Award Creates a Prospecting Lead

Fact: On October 1, Bahrain-based developer Naseej announced its appointment to develop 2,467 housing units in Madinat Khalifa under the government’s Land Development Programme. The public announcement confirms the residential volume but does not disclose the roof, façade, rainwater system, coating or aluminum-alloy specifications.

Analysis: This is a legitimate early-stage demand signal, not a confirmed coated-aluminum order. The useful contacts will be the developer’s technical team, the eventual main contractor, envelope consultants and appointed roofing or façade fabricators. Product outreach should begin with system requirements rather than a generic coil price.

Follow-up: Track the consultant and contractor appointments, then ask for panel profile, design life, coastal-exposure category, approved color, gloss, coating system, alloy, temper and required testing. Senruida commonly works with 3004, 5052 and 5754 substrates and supplies material for pre-painted aluminum roofing and cladding systems, but any proposal should be matched to the project specification rather than assuming PVDF, PE or a particular film thickness is automatically acceptable.

What Should Be on This Week’s Quotation Checklist?

  • Identify CCMN or another agreed China reference by date, basis and currency.
  • Keep LME comparisons separate unless the contract expressly uses an LME-linked formula.
  • Use a short validity period while China’s domestic benchmark is paused for the holiday.
  • Reconfirm Shanghai–Europe freight after factories and carrier schedules normalize.
  • For Gulf destinations, validate the actual gateway, transshipment plan and congestion exposure.
  • Treat the Bahrain housing award as a specification-development lead, not immediate tonnage.

No new European building award with a confirmed roofing or cladding material scope met the verification threshold during this reporting window. Planning announcements without an identified envelope package should remain on a watchlist rather than being counted as near-term coated-coil demand.
